Dental Implants

Dental implants improve more than just smiles. They have been proven to restore some of the most essential functions of life. Implants can help eating, talking, laughing and smiling come naturally once again.

Osseointegration is a process that anchors a dental implant to the bone of the jaw. It usually takes three to six months to completely anchor and heal, after which the implant is in place and ready for a crown or artificial prosthesis. Those who smoke may be asked to quit before proceeding with the osseointegration process, as smoking can cause failure in the anchoring.

Through a small-diameter hole precisely drilled where the new tooth will sit, a titanium screw will connect to the crown, holding the implant in place. After the anchor sets over a few months, your dentist will install a temporary crown to allow the gum line to grow in place before replacing it with the permanent crown.

Will this hurt?
Dentists apply an anesthetic to numb the surrounding implant area, usually upon each implant procedural visit. Postoperative sensitivity is very minimal, and within a day or two there is usually no sensitivity at all. We will work with you to make your experience as comfortable and stress-free as possible.

Caring for your implants at home is just as important as the dentist’s work at the office. That means brushing, flossing and regular dental cleanings to ensure the longest life possible for your implants. If properly cared for, dental implants can last a lifetime.

Teeth Whitening

Professional teeth whitening is a safe, effective way to brilliantly brighten your smile. It’s also perhaps the most economical cosmetic dental procedure. Depending on the whitening method, results can be dramatic: in-office whitening, for example, can lighten teeth 3 to 8 shades in a single hour.

Before any whitening process, we give patients a complete oral exam to ensure discoloration is natural and not a result of a dental condition in need of treatment. If you have any questions about which whitening method would be best for you, give us a call and schedule a consultation. We will help you through every step to a bright smile.

Professional Whitening Methods
Professional whitening utilizes high-concentration bleaching gels that are not available over the counter.

  • In-Office Teeth Whitening — This technique offers the fastest results with the most powerful whitening solutions available. First, gums and tooth-root surfaces are covered with a protective barrier to ensure your safety. A thin plastic device known as a retractor holds your lips and cheeks away from your teeth as we apply a professional-strength hydrogen peroxide gel, which sits on teeth for about an hour. When the gel is removed, the results are immediately obvious.
  • Professional Crest White Strips — Patients play a more active role in this method in whitening their own teeth at home. Professional Crest White Strips available from Gateway Dental are equal to four over-the-counter Crest Strips. This process is easy to use and only takes a few weeks to achieve the desired level of whiteness.
